Recently, the Orange County Chinese Community Service Center and Deyuan Information jointly hosted a special lecture titled "Tax Practicalities and Planning for Individuals Aged 60+" in Irvine. The event drew over 30 attendees from the Chinese community, featuring lively on-site interaction and addressing core tax issues such as retirement tax filing, account structuring, and tax burden management.

The seminar featured Michael Wang (Qi Wang), a U.S.-certified public accountant with over 25 years of experience in U.S.-China tax and finance. Michael holds a Master's degree in Taxation and is a licensed insurance broker in California. Having worked for multiple Fortune 500 companies, he specializes in individual and corporate tax filing, planning, and risk management.

At the outset, host Jenny Wei introduced the speaker's professional background. Michael Wang structured his presentation around two key themes: "Essential Retirement Tax Knowledge" and "Critical Retirement Tax Planning." He addressed common concerns such as: "Do I still need to file taxes after retirement with no income? Does this affect my Green Card or Medicaid benefits?" "How should I report income and assets earned in China?" "Differences in reporting retirement income between the U.S. and China?" " whether children's living expenses require tax reporting." He also provided in-depth analysis on IRA/Roth IRA and estate tax implications, Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) rules, withdrawal differences, and the new elderly deduction policy introduced by the "Big Beautiful Bill."

During the Q&A session, attendees actively engaged with experts on practical questions such as: "Are funds transferred from seniors to children considered gifts?", "Under what circumstances can one 'avoid taxes and even receive refunds?'", and "Who can legally assist seniors with tax filing?" Drawing on his extensive experience, Michael Wang provided clear, actionable professional advice to help attendees clarify tax misconceptions and master compliant planning methods.

This seminar focused on the tax needs of individuals aged 60+, providing professional and practical tax guidance for Chinese Americans residing in the U.S. Moving forward, the Orange County Chinese Community Service Center will continue to offer more practical themed events to help community members better navigate various professional challenges in their daily lives.
